Kilndown and Lamberhurst Cricket Club

A History of Kilndown CC

Allan Needham writes:

Originally an estate side playing at Finchcocks Park the club was formed in 1896, moving later to Kilndown village along side the church. Cricket has been played on the present ground, behind the local, since 1926 and the original pavilion was donated by Captain Cecil, the then president, and opened in 1928.

Following fund raising over a period of years the club purchased the ground in 1986 and then began raising more funds to build a new pavilion. This was successfully completed and the new pavilion was officially opened on July 3rd 1993 by Sir Colin Cowdrey CBE.

Kilndown CC has an honorary life member, John Blunt, who played for the club for over 40 years. It is with sadness that we have to report that our other honorary life member, Frank Sargent, died just before Christmas 2009. A special match in his memory was played on 18th July 2010. Frank captained the club on and off for 35 years, following his father. His son Gary and grandson Joe now (as of 2012) play for KLCC.
