Kilndown and Lamberhurst Cricket Club

History

Kilndown and Lamberhurst CC itself is a very new club, formed in 2001 from the merger of Kilndown CC and Lamberhurst CC. Both these former village clubs have a long history but by the end of the 20th century both were suffering from an extreme shortage of playing members.

Although Kilndown has ties with Goudhurst (they are in the same parish, and there is a superb view of Goudhurst from the cricket ground at Kilndown) Lamberhurst is the closer neighbour as the crow flies, just separated by the Bewl River and Scotney Estate (hence no direct road link). Certainly a number of current and recent cricketers have played for both KCC and LCC - such as Geoff Booth and Mark Skinner.

Links became gradually more formal, so that we could help each other to get a team out when necessary. Ironically during this period of restricted resources we had a remarkable series of four KCC vs LCC matches in 1999-2000. But membership did not increase at either club and finally the decision was taken to merge at the end of 2000. Some would say that this coincided neatly with the start of a new century and millennium, but I won't re-open that debate.
